Congresswoman Lori Trahan Announces $1,628,560 in HHS Grant Funding for Lowell Early Head Start Child Care Partnerships

Lowell, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA-03) announced that Community Teamwork, Inc. in Lowell, Massachusetts would be the recipient of a $1,628,560 Head Start Child Care Partnership grant from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“I am pleased that these funds will support kids growing up in my hometown, Lowell. This investment will bring real and positive progress to our community. Head Start and Early Head Start (EHS) are vital federal programs that promote school readiness for children ages birth to five by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. Services also include health, nutrition, social services, and early childhood education for low income children and their families. These programs have a proven track record of success in Massachusetts and around the country, and represent exactly the type of investments the federal government should be making in children and families who need help the most. Congratulations to the team at Community Teamwork, Inc. for their work in securing this funding. I am proud to support the Head Start programs and other programs like it,” said Rep. Trahan.

“Community Teamwork is thrilled to hear that our Early Learning Division has been awarded the EHS Child Care Partnership Grant. There is a growing need and long wait list for access to infant/toddler education and care in Lowell.   With this funding, we can begin to meet some of this need, support more families through a 2 generational approach, and create a unified birth–to-school–entry continuum of care and education.  This is an exciting opportunity for the children and families in our community and we are eager to implement the innovative model we have designed. We are pleased to be partnering with Little Sprouts and UTEC on this initiative,” Said Meghan Siembor, Division Director, Early Education and Care, Community Teamwork.

Rep. Trahan meets with Maria Moeller, Chief Operations Officer, Child Care and Education Services, The Community Group; Meghan Siembor, Director, Early Learning Programs, Community Teamwork Inc.;Karen Frederick, CEO, Community Teamwork Inc; and Lucas Skorczeski, Co-Executive Director, Acre Family Child Care this past February in her District Office in Lowell,  MA.

The Early Head Start (EHS) Child Care Partnership Grant supports the City of Lowell’s Early Education system by building upon the existing preschool expansion work that providers across the city have engaged in, while also extending Early Head Start services to center-based programs that are currently serving low-income infants and toddlers. The partnership model that has been developed will increase the number of infant/toddler slots in Lowell by 42 children. Community Teamwork, Inc. will be partnering with Little Sprouts and UTEC to provide educational and social/emotional opportunities that children and families need to thrive.  This grant will also offer options for a full array of comprehensive service supports for families, including but not limited to: transportation, nutritional services, mental health consultation, and family development.
