Congresswoman Lori Trahan Announces $9.2 million in Federal Grants for Health Centers in Massachusetts’ 3rd District

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA-03) announced federal grant funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services totaling $9,232,295 for two community health centers in Massachusetts’ 3rd Congressional District. The Lowell Community Health Center will receive $4,313,822 and Community Health Connections, Inc. in Fitchburg, MA will receive $4,918,473.

“I am thrilled to share the great news that two community health centers in our district will be receiving these critical federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services. Without robust grant funding like this, organizations across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the country would not be able to meet the needs of the communities they serve. These health centers in particular play a vital role in combating the opioid addiction crisis that is impacting Massachusetts each and every day. I will continue to advocate for grant funding that improves the lives of hardworking Americans. I applaud the hard work that the Lowell Community Health Center and Community Health Connections, Inc. put into securing these critical resources,” said Rep. Trahan.

“We are grateful to receive this grant from the US Department of Health & Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration to support and advance the mission of Lowell Community Health Center in delivering caring, quality and culturally competent health care to the residents of the Greater Lowell community. This grant allows our health center to play a vital role in meeting the overall health and wellness needs of our community regardless of one’s ability to pay, and to address critical public health issues such as mental health and substance use disorders,” said Susan West Levine, CEO of Lowell Community Health Center

"Community Health Connections is grateful to receive this funding from the Health Resource Service Administration. This will allow us to continue to serve over 25,000 residents of North Central Massachusetts and provide over 127,000 visits annually. These funds ensure that everyone receives the care that they need regardless of their ability to pay for services. Without these funds we could not address the needs of our community," said John DeMalia, President and CEO of Community Health Connections, Inc.
