WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Co-Chair Lori Trahan (MA-03) issued the following statement after President Joe Biden delivered his 2024 State of the Union address:

“The state of our union is only as strong as our President’s willingness to stand up for the basic freedoms we hold dear as Americans. Tonight, we heard a message of strength from President Biden, who is all in in the fight to protect women’s freedom to make our own decisions about our health and our family. As someone who turned to IVF as my last resort to start a family, I know his refusal to back down in the face of extreme Republican abortion bans hit home for every woman wondering if their state would be next to rip fertility treatments away from them like we’ve seen in Alabama. As the President promised, we will not stop until we fully restore Roe.”

“President Biden spoke with resounding clarity tonight. He sent a message that the future of our nation is bright, not because of any one person or one political party, but because of the American people. With record job creation, record low unemployment, increasing wages, and decreasing inflation fueled by American workers and manufacturers, the United States is better positioned than anyone in the world to win the 21st Century. That’s what’s possible when you stop giving tax cuts to the wealthy and well-connected, and start investing in hardworking families like the one I grew up in. President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats in Congress are committed to building on that progress, and we’ll fight back against any attempt to turn back the clock – on our economy, on our rights, or on our freedoms.”
