WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) voted to pass a comprehensive government funding bill to avert a partial shutdown on Friday and deliver $13,928,863 in federal funding for critical projects in communities across the Third District.
“Since the day I took office, I’ve fought for the communities in our district that have been left behind by Washington for too long. The government funding package passed today is a significant federal investment in our collective future. I’m proud of the funding we secured for vital programs that working families depend on to make ends meet while also securing significant investments that will flow directly to the Third District,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “This nearly $14 million in federal funding will support the completion of long overdue projects, stimulating our local economy and making a real difference in the lives of so many families.”
The government funding package will also deliver $13.9 million in Community Project Funding that Trahan advocated for to support critical initiatives across the Third District, including:
- $3,616,279 for the rehabilitation of the Commuter/ADA Access Way at the Lowell Regional Transit Authority’s Gallagher Intermodal Transportation Center in Lowell.
- $2,000,000 to advance the repair of the Mario Lucchesi Memorial Bridge in Lawrence.
- $1,500,000 to support the Billerica Town Center Project, including the creation of a two-way road and construction of sidewalks.
- $1,000,000 to enable the construction of the Advanced Innovation Facility, a central part of UMass Lowell’s East Campus development.
- $1,000,000 to support the City of Lowell’s improvement of a stretch of the Upper Merrimack Corridor with sidewalk repairs, ADA improvements, lighting, landscaping, seating, and wayfinding to make a safe and comfortable pedestrian-friendly corridor.
- $1,000,000 to support WHEAT Community Connections’ creation of new affordable housing units in Clinton.
- $922,832 for the City of Gardner to renovate the James Street Pump Station to ensure safe and adequate drinking water.
- $959,752 to install a stormwater management system, including gutters, catchbasins, and filtration systems along Old Ferry Road in Methuen.
- $700,000 to replace the existing stone bridge on West Main Street over the Nonacoicus Brook in Ayer.
- $480,000 to improve Tyngsborough’s sewer infrastructure.
- $400,000 to upgrade public safety radio communications in Berlin.
- $350,000 for the installation of new sidewalks in Chelmsford on Parkerville Road between the Westford Town Line and Maple Road.
In addition to these local investments, House Democrats were successful in rejecting extreme Republican cuts and policies. This package invests in America’s future and delivers for the American people by:
- Helping with the high cost of living, creating and sustaining tens of thousands of good paying jobs, fighting inflation, and providing full funding for key lifelines such as food assistance and more affordable housing and homeownership.
- Protecting women’s rights by blocking attempts to limit women’s access to reproductive health care, including abortion, and by increasing funding for gender-based violence prevention and prosecution programs.
- Confronting the climate crisis, fighting climate change, and ensuring America’s energy independence with robust, transformative investments in deploying clean energy technologies in communities across the country, and providing funding for cutting-edge scientific and climate-related research.
- Honoring our commitments to our veterans by ensuring they receive the care and benefits that they have earned and investing in veterans’ health care, including targeted investments that advance women's health, mental health, and homelessness assistance.
This legislation now moves to the Senate for passage. A detailed summary of the bill is available HERE.
