Trahan Statement on NCAA Championship Media Rights Agreement

LOWELL, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03), a former Division-I volleyball player and the author of the College Athlete Economic Freedom Act and the Fair Play for Women Act, issued the following statement after the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced a new media rights agreement for championships, including significant increases for women’s sports championships:

“For decades, women have had to chart their own course in college athletics despite tremendous year over year growth in viewership and interest. Today’s NCAA media rights agreement finally recognizes the rapidly increasing value women athletes bring to their campuses and their sports.”

“I applaud President Baker and his team of negotiators who secured significant increases in valuation and exposure for women’s championships, particularly basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, and softball, and for their continued commitment to build on this progress when the rights are negotiated alongside the men’s basketball championship agreement in 2032.”
