Trahan Highlights Nearly $10,000,000 in Federal Funding for Boston Road in Billerica

LOWELL, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) joined Billerica Town Manager John Curran, DPW Director Frederick Russell, and town officials to highlight $9,652,326 in federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funding allocated to rehabilitate Boston Road (Route 3A) near the Town Center.

“Billerica’s Town Center is getting a major upgrade thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Nearly $10 million in federal funding will help ensure Boston Road is safer and more efficient for Billerica families. These improvements to the local historic district will also help keep the spirit of Billerica alive with these important updates,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “I’m grateful to Town Manager John Curran and DPW Director Frederick Russell who have been relentless in their pursuit of the federal investments necessary to improve Billerica’s infrastructure.”

“The Town is very pleased to celebrate with Congresswoman Lori Trahan the $9.6 million in federal funding she secured for the Boston Road rehabilitation project,” said Town Manager John Curran. “Without this investment this section of Boston Road would not be updated for years. We are especially grateful for the relationship with the Congresswoman’s office and look forward to working together for Billerica.”

“Today was a great day to celebrate an investment in Billerica. This $9.6 million will positively impact every resident of the Town by shortening travel times, incorporating sidewalks and other traffic safety measures. The Town is very lucky to have Congresswoman Trahan advocating on our behalf,” said Select Board Member Mike Riley.

The Boston Road rehabilitation project will improve safety and operations through a more efficient traffic configuration, storm drainage investments, sidewalk upgrades, buffered bike lanes, new traffic signals, and pedestrian crossing beacons. The project extends about 3,800 feet along Boston Road from Simmons Lane to just north of the Town Center and includes improvements along Boston Road at the Simmons Lane, Heritage Road, Good Street, Tom Glavine Way, and Mulberry Lane intersections.

The stretch of Boston Road from Heritage Road to the Town Center is within the local historic district, and the improvements within this area will include ornamental streetlights, an ornamental traffic signal at Good Street, streetscaping, tree planting, brick pavers on the sidewalk, an island along the shared use path, and the relocation of overhead utility wire crossing Boston Road to underground.

Trahan secured this funding for the Town of Billerica through the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The legislation is delivering more than $9.5 billion in federal funding to the Commonwealth between 2022-2027.
