ICYMI: Trahan Commemorates Overdose Awareness Day

LOWELL, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) commemorated Overdose Awareness Day by hosting a live discussion on the work being done at the local, state, and federal levels to destigmatize addiction and combat the addiction crisis. Trahan was joined by Peter Koutoujian, Middlesex County Sheriff, Miatta Edi-Osagie, Administrator at Marlborough Hills Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, and Dr. Sarah Bagley, the Founder of Boston Medical Center’s Center for Addiction Treatment for Adolescents/Young Adults who Use Substances (CATALYST) Clinic.

“Today is Overdose Awareness Day, an important reminder of how far we still have to go to destigmatize addiction, combat the opioid crisis, and break down barriers to treatment here in Massachusetts, " said Congresswoman Lori Trahan. “The crisis has affected almost every single family in Massachusetts in one way or another, and far too many families have an empty seat at the table today because they lost a loved one because their addiction either went undiagnosed or untreated.”

Trahan has used her role on the Energy and Commerce’s Health Subcommittee to champion addiction legislation. Most notably, her bipartisan Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act cleared the House and Senate and was signed into law by President Joe Biden at the end of 2022. She has also hosted previous live discussions with local partners on the MATE Act and the addiction crisis.
