LOWELL, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) issued the following statement after the indictment of former President Donald J. Trump by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office:

“Like most Americans, I believe no one deserves special treatment or exemption from consequences if they break the law. That’s the foundation of our justice system, and today’s grand jury indictment is proof that justice is and should be blind to your previous profession, even if you’re the former President of the United States.”

“It’s now incumbent on the District Attorney’s office to continue following due process, to make the case to a court of law for why Donald Trump should be convicted, and to ensure that the former president has a chance to defend himself – as is his right as an American. In the meantime, I urge my colleagues, from the Speaker to Committee Chairs down to rank-and-file members, to avoid interfering in this ongoing criminal proceeding. Failure to do so would be a violation of our oath of office.”
