Trahan Releases Her Week One Priorities

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03), released her ‘Week One Priorities’ following the swearing in of the 118th Congress. This agenda lays out the Congresswoman’s top priorities for her third term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“It’s ‘Week One’ of my third term representing the Third District – my home district. I’ve gone to work every day to make sure our hard working, Massachusetts families have the opportunities and resources necessary to create a better life for their children. That’s exactly what is reflected in these priorities,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “With the lessons from the last four years in Congress under my belt, I am ready to get to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to deliver for the Third District.”

The agenda is as follows:

Helping Families Make Ends Meet

  1. Reducing home heating costs this winter, following Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, which has increased the cost of natural gas.
  2. Holding Big Oil companies accountable for their price gouging and passing along the savings to hard working families.
  3. Protecting Social Security and Medicare so seniors see the earned benefits of the money they contributed over the decades.
  4. Passing anti-inflation legislation that helps families save money on products from groceries to home appliances.
  5. Making healthcare and prescription drugs more affordable for our families.
  6. Creating good-paying jobs in our district so workers of all backgrounds can thrive.
  7. Protecting workers’ rights to collectively bargain.

Supporting our Parents and Youth

  1. Advocating for youth mental health support and services after a pandemic that only exacerbated our youth mental health crisis.
  2. Protecting our kids online from hateful and harmful content as they access the internet at younger and younger ages.
  3. Requiring transparency from the Big Tech companies that create the platforms that profit off our children.

Combating the Opioid Epidemic

  1. Continuing work on the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force to identify and advance meaningful solutions and enact policies to address the substance use disorder crisis and reduce overdose deaths.
  2. Working with local partners in the Third District to end the opioid epidemic.
  3. Expanding awareness of overdose deaths, which have tragically reached record highs over the pandemic.

Investing in our District

  1. Securing federal funds for roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure projects across the Third District.
  2. Stopping sewage overflows by delivering federal investments to communities like Lowell, Lawrence, Methuen, Haverhill, and Fitchburg.
  3. Addressing PFAS contamination to ensure families have access to clean drinking water.

Protecting Women’s Rights

  1. Ensuring that women nationwide have access to safe, legal abortion care.
  2. Providing healthcare providers with the resources necessary to provide women’s healthcare following the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
  3. Demanding that tech companies protect women’s personal information that in Republican-controlled states can be used to prosecute women seeking abortions.
