WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) issued the following statement after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s joint address to Congress:

“The United States has stood unequivocally with the Ukrainian people in their courageous fight for the future of their democracy and our shared values. Tonight, we heard from President Zelenskyy about how critical that support has been and how grateful Ukrainians are not just to Congress, but to each and every American.”

“Alongside our allies, our strong response to Russia’s unprovoked invasion has empowered Ukraine to do the impossible – to beat back Russian advances and liberate large swaths of their country. Our support has helped innocent civilians keep their families fed, even as Russia focuses strikes on civilian targets like hospitals and daycares. And our compassion has ensured that families who fled unspeakable violence have found safety in other nations, including here at home in Massachusetts.”

“However, our work is far from finished. President Zelenskyy was clear that Ukraine is winning thanks to American military equipment and training, and they’re going to continue needing that aid to be victorious. I’m thankful that Ukraine will soon receive the Patriot air defense system so they can protect themselves from Russian missiles, and I look forward to casting my vote to stand with Ukraine once again in the coming days.”
