LOWELL, MA – Yesterday, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) was joined by State Senator John Cronin. State Representative Meg Kilcoyne, and Lancaster leaders to celebrate $4,758,794 in federal funding Trahan secured through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for improvements to Lunenburg Road and Main Street intersections. 

“As a working mom of two young girls, I know the difference that a safer and shorter commute makes in the lives of parents. This investment will help out Mary Rowlandson and Luther Burbank families and all of the pedestrians, bikers, and drivers in Lancaster who share the road,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “It’s terrific to see the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law making projects like these come to life in the Third District to benefit hardworking families.” 

The nearly $5 million investment will make the Route 117/Route 70 intersections at Lunenburg Road and Main Street safer and more accessible for drivers, pedestrians, and bike riders. Specifically, the project covers enhanced bike lanes, new traffic lights, new directional signs,  accessible ramps, wider lanes to help with traffic flow and make pedestrian crossings safer, a new drainage trunkline, a pedestrian island, and multi-use pathways with grass buffers. The project also includes freshly paved roads, sidewalks, and curbs.

The project is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving of 2023 with the federal funding covering 98% of the total cost of upgrade.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Trahan voted for in November of 2021, is sending at least $4.2 billion for road improvements and repairs to the Commonwealth to support projects like these intersection upgrades.
