LOWELL, Mass. — Ukrainian families who were forced to flee the war in their home nation continue to relocate to countries across the world, including the United States.

So far, approximately 30 families from Ukraine have settled in the Merrimack Valley, all part of a United States plan to take in 100,000 Ukrainian refugees in 2022.

Massachusetts congresswoman Lori Trahan held a reception Friday in support of Ukrainian families.

Anna Pyrk just arrived in the United States from Ukraine, fleeing the Russian invasion of her native country as part of the Americans Uniting for Ukraine Program.

Although she is now living in the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts, her heart is with the family she has left behind.

"It is difficult," Pyrk said. "Our hearts are there."

Pyrk and others who've just arrived from Ukraine will now get resources to help with jobs, housing and health care.
