House Votes to Codify Contraception Access

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) voted to codify contraception access. The vote on the Right to Contraception Act comes just four weeks after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and Justice Clarence Thomas’s concurring opinion that said the court should revisit its decision guaranteeing the right to contraception.

During debate on the Right to Contraception Act, Trahan voiced her support for the legislation and encouraged her colleagues to do the same. Footage of her speech can be accessed HERE or by clicking the image below, and a transcript can be accessed HERE.

The Right to Contraception Act enshrines the right to obtain and use contraception in law, and it prohibits any attempts by states to limit access to contraceptives. Additionally, it protects health care providers from punishment for providing contraceptives, contraception, and information related to contraception.

The legislation passed with the support of every House Democrat. 195 Republicans voted NO on the Right to Contraception Act.
