LOWELL, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) released the following statement after Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer announced his decision to retire at the end of the current term:

“I’m deeply grateful to Justice Breyer for his lifetime of service to our nation. During his time at the Department of Justice, the Watergate Special Prosecution Force, and as a federal judge, Justice Breyer has remained consistent in his conviction to protect the rights of every American and preserve the foundation on which our Democracy was built.”

“Much of the attention will now turn to the nomination of his successor to the Supreme Court. While I look forward to engaging fully in that conversation when the time arrives, today, I join with millions of Americans here in the Commonwealth and across our country in expressing our gratitude to Justice Breyer for all he’s done. His voice will undoubtedly be missed on the bench, and I wish him and his loved ones all the best in his retirement.”
