Trahan Statement on New Economic Data

LOWELL, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) issued the following statement after the recent releases of updated economic data:

“The new economic data released this week shows what the President has been saying for months now – folks here in Massachusetts and across our nation are returning to work in historic numbers. At the same time, increased prices caused by the pandemic are putting a squeeze on many families’ budgets. That certainly would have been the case for my parents when they were raising my three sisters and me, and it’s something we’re working overtime to address.”

“It’s extremely disappointing that instead of joining with us in those efforts, Republican leaders are actively cheering on inflation that’s hurting families – with one Republican Senator even labeling it a ‘gold mine’ for them politically. While Republicans play politics with people’s livelihoods, we’re going to continue building on the progress we’ve made to lower prices, address supply chain bottlenecks, and tackle price-gouging at the pump.”

“President Biden’s actions to move products through ports faster are working, and grocers and retailers alike are keeping their shelves stocked for the holidays. The House passed additional legislation this week to bolster those initiatives. Gas prices are also coming down, and projections show that will continue as the administration targets price gouging at the pumps. More help is on the way. Our vote in the House for the Build Back Better Act moves policies to lower costs and ease inflationary pressures closer to becoming law, including cheaper prescription drugs, affordable child care, and continued monthly child tax credit payments that are already putting money in the pockets of more than 700,000 Massachusetts families.”

“The President and Democrats in Congress have mobilized to address the root causes of inflation and increased costs. As prices continue to drop and families get back on their feet, we’re going to keep pushing to make sure our economy finally works for them.”
