New Analysis Finds Build Back Better Act Will Save Massachusetts Families Up to Tens of Thousands in Child Care Costs Annually

LOWELL, MA – According to a new analysis released by the House Education and Labor Committee, the Build Back Better Act will save Massachusetts families up to tens of thousands of dollars in child care costs each year. The Committee’s report found that the typical Massachusetts family of four with one infant in full-time center-based child care would save $18,750 annually. The typical Massachusetts family of four with one infant and one child in full-time center-based child care would save an average of $34,500 each year.

“The historic investments in the Build Back Better Act will put working families first by delivering life-changing savings for so many across the Commonwealth,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “As we continue our recovery from the pandemic, we’re working to make sure every family can return to work without worrying about whether they’ll be able to access quality, affordable care for their children.”

Under the Build Back Better Act, no family would pay more than 7 percent of their income on child care. Families making 100 percent of the State Median Income or less – which is $125,335 for a family of four in Massachusetts – would pay no more than 2 percent of their income on child care, regardless of the number of children they have in child care.

The legislation’s child care investments would give families greater financial security, allow more parents to rejoin the workforce, and help grow the economy.
