Trahan Highlights $33.7 Million in Child Tax Credit Payments Delivered to Third District Families in August

According to New Report, Child Tax Credit Tax Cuts are Generating Nearly $20 Billion in Local Economic Activity Each Month Nationwide

LOWELL, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan highlighted a new report from the Joint Economic Committee estimating that 83,000 monthly Child Tax Credit payments were sent to families in the Third District in August. A total of $33.7 in tax cuts went back in the pockets of hardworking district families, the most of any district in the Commonwealth.

“The historic expansion of the Child Tax Credit that we passed as part of the American Rescue Plan is putting more of hardworking families’ own money back in their pockets so they can cover child care payments, put gas in the car, put food on the table, spend money at local businesses, and grow our local economy. It’s clear that the strengthened tax credit is a tremendous success, which is why we must extend it into the future when we make President Biden’s Build Back Better Act law in the coming weeks,” said Congresswoman Trahan.

Statewide, 664,000 monthly tax cut payments went to families in August for a total of $256.8 million. The average payment was $387. Nationwide, the Joint Economic Committee estimates the Child Tax Credit tax cuts are pumping $19.3 billion into local economies each month, supporting local jobs and businesses.
