Congresswoman Trahan, Mayor Vasquez Visit Lawrence General Mobile Vaccine Clinic

LOWELL, MA – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee, and Lawrence Mayor Kendrys Vasquez visited Lawrence General Hospital’s (LGH) mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinic and encouraged residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

“What’s become clear as we work to get shots into arms and defeat COVID-19 is that we cannot afford to wait and hope that people show up to a mass vaccination site,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “Mayor Vasquez and the leaders at Lawrence General recognize that, which is why this mobile vaccine clinic has been such a resounding success and key in getting Lawrence out of the red zone. These are the types of efforts we need to be successful to end this pandemic, and I’m committed to ensuring that the mobile clinic has the support and resources it needs to continue administering vaccines.”

“Increasing accessibility to the COVID-19 vaccine has been a priority for our administration and an integral part of ensuring that Lawrence can begin to recover from this pandemic. Our efforts which include vaccinating over 70 percent of our most vulnerable residents have been strengthened and supported by the extraordinary partnership we have with Congresswoman Trahan and Lawrence General, a partnership we are grateful for,” said Mayor Vasquez.

"Doing everything we can to improve and protect our community’s health is one of Lawrence General’s key priorities and bringing the vaccine to neighborhoods in Lawrence will help more people get vaccinated and prevent further harmful impact of this virus”, said Deb Wilson, President and CEO of Lawrence General Hospital.

During the lawmakers visit, they toured the clinic with leaders from LGH and received a briefing on its operations and success, as well as the challenges that lay ahead in vaccinating as many Lawrence residents as possible. In March, LGH and Mayor Vasquez announced the creation of the hospital’s mobile vaccination clinic program that can administer up to 100 vaccinations every day and is designed to reach Lawrence residents who are unable to travel to traditional vaccination sites or are least likely to proactively seek out the vaccine. Trahan has repeatedly lauded the efforts of health care heroes at LGH in responding to the pandemic, both in saving lives of COVID-positive patients and now administering lifesaving vaccines.

The American Rescue Plan, which Trahan voted for in March, allocated more than $20 billion to establish a National COVID-19 Vaccination Program and improve the administration and distribution of vaccines, including $7.5 billion to strengthen the CDC’s ability to promote, distribute, monitor, and track COVID-19 vaccines. This investment has proven key in getting more than 220 million shots into arms and ensuring that half of all adults in the United States, including 70 percent of all adults over the age of 50 in Lawrence, are now fully vaccinated.
