Trahan Statement on President Biden’s Joint Address
Washington,
April 28, 2021
WASHINGTON, DC – After attending President Joe Biden’s first address to the U.S. Congress, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) issued the following statement: “President Biden’s message tonight was clear: America is back. Over the course of his first three months in office, President Biden has worked with Congress, states, and local governments to successfully turn the tide in the fight against COVID-19. Now, as we continue ramping up efforts to get shots into arms and defeat this virus, we must take action to accelerate our nation’s road to recovery.” “The President’s historic speech laid out his vision for building back better than we were before the pandemic and finally creating an economy that works for working families like the one I grew up in. We must embark on an agenda to get people back to work in quality, good paying jobs and finally ensure that families have the tools and resources they need to get back on their feet and prosper. To achieve these bold, forward-thinking goals, the President outlined his plans to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, create millions of jobs, and invest in families and children by strengthening public education, making pre-school universally accessible and child care affordable for working parents, creating a coast-to-coast comprehensive paid family and medical leave program, ending food insecurity, and extending the enhanced Child Tax Credit provided through the American Rescue Plan that has served as a lifeline for millions of families struggling to make ends meet.” “Congress was given a mandate by the American people last November to hit the reset button and finally make government work for them. Tonight, President Biden gave us the blueprint for how to meet those expectations. I look forward to continuing to work with him, Vice President Harris, my colleagues in Congress, and folks across the Third District to build on the progress we’ve made over the past 99 days.” ### |
