Trahan Votes to Demand that Vice President Pence Invoke 25th Amendment

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (MA-03) issued the following statement after voting in favor of legislation calling on Vice President Michael R. Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and begin the process to remove President Donald J. Trump from office.

“The President of the United States incited a violent mob of his supporters to commit an act of insurrection meant to overthrow Congress and halt the count of Electoral College votes. He did nothing to stop the violence as police officers were assaulted and one was killed, the Capitol was ransacked, and members of the House and Senate were hunted down. Since then, he has refused to acknowledge his responsibility for the attacks, and his most ardent supporters continue to spread disinformation that could lead to another violent uprising.”

“President Trump is unfit to stay in office and remains a threat to our nation, both over the next eight days and if not held to account, for the foreseeable future. Since he lacks the dignity to resign, Vice President Pence has an obligation to take action to remove him from office immediately. Tonight’s vote calls on him to put the future of our nation ahead of his own party and political aspirations.”

“If the Vice President won’t stand up for our country and invoke the 25thAmendment, Congress will have no other choice but to vote tomorrow to impeach Donald Trump for incitement of insurrection.”
