Trahan Announces More Than $1.2 Million in Grant Funding for UMass Lowell

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA-03) announced that the University of Massachusetts Lowell is the recipient of a $1,299,999 annual award from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The award will support the school’s Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace. 

“This important grant funding will assist in finding solutions to create more safe and healthy workplaces for people across our state and region,” said Congresswoman Trahan, “UMass Lowell receives this annual funding because it continues to deliver on its promise of providing new workforce solutions through innovation. I look forward to seeing the research results UMass Lowell will produce to elevate the future of work.” 

“The Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace (CPH-NEW) at UMass Lowell conducts research and delivers education to ensure the health, safety and vitality of the region’s workforce. CPH-NEW is one of six national for Total Worker Health® Centers for Excellence, funded by the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). This award will support our work for the 15th year, enabling us to advance workplace well-being in New England and nationally. Now more than ever, we recognize the importance of healthy workers for a healthy economy and healthy society,” said Laura Punnett, UMass Lowell professor of biomedical engineering and co-director of the Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace, “We are grateful to NIOSH for its continued support and for Rep. Trahan’s recognition of NIOSH’s importance to the health of the U.S. workforce, as well as  her support of both the agency and CPH-NEW. NIOSH is the single federal agency responsible for research and training in workplace health and safety.”
