ANDOVER, MA – Yesterday, Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA-03) hosted Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI-02), Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Intelligence and Emerging Threats and Capabilities, to tour two defense-related facilities in Massachusetts’ Third Congressional District. The Representatives toured and met with employees of Raytheon and InstantEye Robotics, a division of Physical Sciences, Inc. in Andover.

“Our district is home to world-class engineers, industrial leaders in skilled manufacturing, and educational institutions that are researching and building next-generation defense technologies to keep our troops the best-equipped in the world. Raytheon and InstantEye Robotics are two such companies that demonstrate this important work,” said Congresswoman Trahan. “It was an honor to host Chairman Langevin, who understands the importance of leveraging cutting-edge capabilities to keep our troops safe and our competitive advantage strong in an evolving world.” 

“I am incredibly grateful to the dedicated and talented employees in our defense industrial base working to develop world-class technologies that support our armed forces,” said Congressman Langevin. “I thank Congresswoman Trahan for hosting me in her district to tour and visit with employees at Raytheon and InstantEye Robotics. The work done at these companies directly protects American service members.”

InstantEye is a high-performance, low-cost aerial system that can be hand-launched, flown and recovered by a single person in any weather. These systems are used by the U.S. Military for navigation, track, and targeting operations. The technology was also recently used in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian to help FEMA search and rescue teams locate missing and distressed victims in the Bahamas.

Representatives Trahan and Langevin are Members of the conference committee for the FY20 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a bill that authorizes funding for the Department of Defense. In Rep. Trahan’s capacity as a conferee, she represents both the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Armed Services Committee during the conference committee process.

The tour was organized to highlight the importance of emerging technologies that are manufactured domestically and are critical for the American warfighter.
