Congresswoman Lori Trahan Statement on Trump Administration Transferring Funds from U.S. Military Construction Accounts to Pay for Ineffective Border Wall

LOWELL, MA -- Congresswoman Lori Trahan (D-MA), a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued this statement on the Trump Administration’s decision to transfer $3.6 billion from military construction funds to pay for his border wall.

“Diverting urgently-needed funding away from military construction projects that Congress has already authorized in order to build an ineffective, wasteful wall that won’t make our country any safer or our immigration system any less broken is a deeply flawed and reckless policy. As a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, I am acutely aware of the threats our nation faces, and the importance of maintaining the readiness of our armed forces. The President’s decision to circumvent the authority of Congress to fulfill a politically-charged campaign promise is a disservice not only to our men and women in uniform, but to the intent of the Constitution,” said Congresswoman Trahan.

Back in February of this year, Representatives Lori Trahan (MA-03), Seth Moulton (MA-06), and Bill Keating (MA-09) -- Massachusetts Members of the House Armed Services Committee -- condemned President Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency so that he can circumvent Congress and use military construction funds to build his border wall.
